All Vegan, Gluten-Free Ice Cream Shop Now Open in Sorrento Valley

Kula Ice Cream, San Diego’s only all vegan, gluten-free ice cream scoop shop, is now open at its Sorrento Valley headquarters.

You may have spotted Kula Ice Cream at San Diego County farmers’ markets and vegan food pop-ups. Now Kula fanatics can stop by the company’s new tasting room and scoop shop in Sorrento Valley for a special vegan, gluten-free sweet treat.

For founder and owner, Libby Lefanowicz, this ice cream shop has been a long time in the making. “‘Kula’ is a Sanskrit word used by the yoga community to denote inclusion and belonging. So for me, a scoop shop was always in the plan,” says Libby.

The scoop shop features 12 different flavors, all made from different nut, milk and seed bases to accommodate dietary preferences and allergies. Menu highlights include Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (coconut milk with gluten-free cookie dough), Spicy Summer Mango (coconut milk with mangos, spicy Chamoy sauce and Tajin peppers) and But First, Coffee! (cashew base with chunks of dark chocolate covered espresso beans).

Even two boozy flavors grace the current menu, Sunflower Rum Raspberry (sunflower seed base infused with dark rum and fresh raspberry sauce) and Wine Not? (cashew base infused with cherries, red wine and chocolate).

Scoops are served in a cup or gluten-free waffle, sugar or cake cone plus an assortment of gluten free and vegan toppings like cookies and sprinkles are also available at an additional charge. You can also pick up a pint or a custom-made vegan, gluten-free ice cream cake for your next celebration.

So what’s next for Kula Ice Cream? “Wholesale!” Libby says. Libby is pitching her frozen pints to local and regional grocery chains so that many more can sample her decadent ice cream.
